Your DBS Check Explained

Quick Answer: A DBS check shows your criminal record history. TrustID verifies your identity; your employer submits the application to DBS, and DBS processes the check and issues the certificate.

TrustID verifies your identity first. This is the first step in the process. Your employer then submits the DBS application. This can either be done through another provider or through TrustID using uCheck. The DBS then processes the criminal record check.

There are three parties involved in the process:

TrustID – verifies your identity

Employer – submits the DBS application (this can either be done via TrustID or alternative provider)

After the identity verification is completed, employers are responsible for submitting the application to their chosen DBS provider and ensuring the DBS criminal record check is processed.

DBS – carries out the criminal record check

The DBS Summary page within the Reports section provides updates throughout the process, including details of any unspent convictions.

DBS checks criminal records databases and returns the result on a DBS certificate.
