Am I Eligible for Digital Verification for DBS Standard/Enhanced?

Quick Answer: Yes if: You have an in-date biometric passport or in-date biometric EU/EEA ID card (these contain a chip). No if: You only have a non-biometric document (no chip).

✅ Eligible if you have:

  • An in-date biometric passport or biometric EU/EEA ID card (these documents contain an embedded chip used for digital verification)

  • A smartphone with a camera

  • An internet connection

❌ Not eligible if:

  • You do not have a biometric document with a chip

  • You only hold a biometric residence permit

  • You do not have a smartphone

🔄 What if I don’t have a document with a chip?

If you don’t have a biometric document with a chip, you won’t be able to complete digital verification.

In this case, you should contact the organisation requesting your DBS check (e.g. your employer or recruiter). They will advise you on alternative verification options, such as a manual or in-person document check.

🔁 Alternative if not eligible:

  • Traditional in-person DBS document check with your employer

⚡ Quick eligibility test:

Have a current biometric passport or biometric EU/EEA ID card (with a chip) + smartphone = Eligible!

Please note UK passports can be up to 6 months expired.
