📄 List A (Permanent Right to Work)
You can provide one of the following:
A passport (current or expired) showing the holder is a British citizen or a citizen of the UK and Colonies with the right of abode in the UK.
A passport or passport card (current or expired) showing the holder is an Irish citizen.
A document issued by Jersey, Guernsey, or the Isle of Man, verified by the Home Office Employer Checking Service, confirming unlimited leave under relevant immigration rules.
A current passport endorsed to show the holder is exempt from immigration control, has indefinite leave, right of abode, or no time limit on their stay in the UK.
A current Immigration Status Document issued by the Home Office confirming indefinite stay, plus an official document showing the person’s permanent National Insurance number and name (issued by a government agency or previous employer).
A UK birth or adoption certificate, plus an official document showing the person’s permanent National Insurance number and name.
A birth or adoption certificate issued in the Channel Islands, Isle of Man, or Ireland, plus an official document showing the person’s permanent National Insurance number and name.
A certificate of registration or naturalisation as a British citizen, plus an official document showing the person’s permanent National Insurance number and name.
📄 List B (Temporary Right to Work)
Group 1 (Time-limited right to work)
You can provide one of the following:
A current passport endorsed to show the holder is allowed to stay in the UK and do the type of work in question.
A document issued by Jersey, Guernsey, or the Isle of Man (verified by the Employer Checking Service) confirming limited leave to remain.
A current Immigration Status Document (with photo) issued by the Home Office confirming the right to stay and work, plus an official document showing the person’s permanent National Insurance number and name.
Group 2 (Requires Employer Checking Service verification)
You must provide the document along with a Positive Verification Notice from the Home Office Employer Checking Service:
Proof of application to the EU Settlement Scheme (submitted on or before 30 June 2021)
A non-digital Certificate of Application (submitted on or after 1 July 2021)
A document issued by Jersey, Guernsey, or the Isle of Man confirming an application under relevant EU settlement rules
An Application Registration Card stating the holder is permitted to work
A Positive Verification Notice confirming the individual’s right to work
Commonly Insufficient Documents
Some documents, while valid for identification purposes, do not independently confirm a candidate's right to work in the UK. Examples include:
British Travel Document: This document confirms identity but does not provide proof of immigration status or employment eligibility. Employers cannot rely on it as standalone evidence for a Right to Work check and the applicant will be able to generate a share code.
